Justice Justin Kidd will provide an orientation to Justice Courts in Oregon, going over their history, statutory jurisdiction, and jurisdiction as a practice matter.  He will also cover appeals from Justice Courts.  Our members will be particularly interested in the application of ORS 52.060: "Any person may act as attorney for another in a justice court, except a person or officer serving any process in the action or proceeding, other than a subpoena."  Justice Kidd will also discuss the Justice Court's FED (forcible entry and detainer) process, as that is an area under which Licensed Paralegals are now able to practice statewide.

Speaker: Justice Justin Kidd

Justin Kidd is the Marion County Justice of the Peace. He received his BA in Spanish from the University of Denver and his Juris Doctorate from the University of California, Berkeley. Judge Kidd served as a Senior Assistant Attorney General in the Oregon Department of Justice Trial Division, trying matters ranging from small claims to multi-million-dollar jury trials and complex class action suits. He wants to make justice accessible to all Oregonians. He has served as a foster and adoptive parent and his passion is assisting foster and adoptive children.
